Thirty three leoni they will return to Africa after having been freed from circuses in South America. Animal Defenders International collaborated with the police of Colombia and Peru in favor of the closure of the circuses.

In the circuses of these two countries now performances with animals are illegal. The lions were released along with bears, monkeys and a puma for a total of 90 animals in all. Finding a new home for these 33 lions was a great challenge, especially as many of them have never lived in the wild and therefore have not developed survival skills in critical situations.

Some had been clawed or have broken teeth, while others are now elderly. Here, however, the ideal place to give a new life to these lions has been identified. This is theEmoya Big Cat Sanctuary of Limpopo, South Africa.

The lions they will be safe since this cat sanctuary is not open to the public and specializes in the care of big cats. Here are already eight previously rescued lions and tigers. ADI decided to hire a 747 to transport the lions and a team of vets to South Africa. It will be the largest airlift dedicated to felines of this genus.

The flight to transport the lions to South Africa is scheduled for October. Meanwhile lions are always under observation and undergo medical treatment that will also prepare them for the wide open spaces of their new home in the South African bush.
