In England, but actually all over the West, adults consume too many calories. According to some experts, however, it would be advisable to reduce the intake to 1800 calories per day to avoid overweight problems e obesity.

British public health officials are urging adults to cut back on the amount of food they eat on a daily basis considering they actually serve 1.800 calories a day in most cases.

Public Health England (PHE) guidelines, which will be published next year, recommend that both men and women split calories throughout the day into 400 for breakfast, 600 for lunch and dinner, and 200 for any snacks for a total precisely of 1800.

The current recommendations instead speak, as part of a balanced diet, to consume 2.000 calories in the case of women and 2.500 for men, however there is a problem of overweight and obesity that would be due precisely to the intake of unnecessary food which would be equivalent to about 300 extra calories per day.

The new power lines in the United Kingdom will therefore propose the “400-600-600” rule and will standardize the scheme for both men and women, making everything simpler. There are obviously those who criticize the validity of this recommendation as not all situations are the same. In fact, age, the activities that take place during the day and other variables that cause the nutritional needs of the individual to change are not considered.

However, it seems that the new guidelines deliberately point down to get a middle ground considering also that the calorie intake of drinks is often underestimated. The goal is obviously to make people think more about what they are eating and especially about the portions.

The challenge is also to persuade popular restaurant chains to offer healthier meals. In the launch of the new food campaign that will be called “One You Nutrition”, PHE is in fact working with fast food chains to push for the creation of nutritionally valid menus and dishes that citizens can consume when they are away from home.

There is undoubtedly a significant problem of obesity in the UK (it is estimated at 27% among adults regardless of gender). This is the European nation where the problem is most felt. But will a calorie food campaign like this really make a difference?
