1000 dairy cows mistreated and left in pitiful hygienic conditions: a farm in Ancona denounced

A complaint is made for a farm in Ancona, where cows were mistreated and left in the middle of the manure

Cows with broken or dislocated limbs, inevitably brought to death and left in terrible hygienic conditions, in the midst of manure: this is what happened in a farm in the territory of the Misa Valley, in the province of Ancona, where about 1000 dairy cattle are raised. To open the Pandora's box were the activists of the association Being Animals, who last year had alerted the police. After the inspections by the Carabinieri Forestali of Arcevia, the complaint was filed for the president and an employee of the plant.

In addition to being accused of animal abuse, the two were sued for illicit management of non-hazardous waste and for having accomplished tanks in an abusive manner, without the necessary building and landscape titles.

The investigations

In 2021, the police had ascertained the death of 24 cows, which had been killed by euthanasia or slaughtered urgently. The poor animals, exploited for milk production, were subjected to unspeakable stress and suffering. The continuous mistreatment, in fact, had led to the onset of numerous physical problems, including rupture and dislocation of the limbs, caused by the excessive presence of manure inside the barn made the floors slippery.

Furthermore, during the inspections the Forestry Carabinieri had confirmed the construction of two illegal tanks (respectively of 300 and 600 square meters), intended to collect animal waste. These works had been made without any authorization. Finally, in the farm, the illegal management of tons of non-hazardous waste was ascertained, consisting of sewage and effluents of animal origin, stored in excessive quantities and illegally disposed of in the ground. Now the two men reported up to 27 months in prison and penalties of up to 45.000 euros.

The cooperative company that manages the plant was also denounced for administrative liability related to the crime of illegal waste management and risks another fine of between € 64.500 and € 387.250.
