Have a good thought how many things can you do to teach your children to adopt a more eco-sustainable lifestyle? Normally children tend to imitate what their parents do and if you are an environmentalist or otherwise aware consumer, your children will most likely follow in your footsteps. Often, however, they do not listen to the requests that come from those who take them as a model.
So it is necessary come up with innovative, creative and fun ways to teach their children how to become truly green people. Children are our future so it is necessary to make them understand the importance of respecting the environment in which we live, and then let's see some ways to teach him how to make our planet a better place to live.
1) How many times have you scolded them for leaving their room or bathroom and forgetting about it light on? Yet this way you didn't get them to learn how to turn off the lights by leaving every room in the house. A great way to teach him how to save electricity is to inventing a game of prizes, for example. Every time when they leave a room they remember to turn off the switch you could assign them a point, and at the weekend, based on the points accumulated, give the whole family a picnic in the park, complete with a basket and blanket.
2) Bathing can be a lot of fun, but doing it shower allows you to save much more water, provided that the shower is short. One way to make your children understand that there is no need to run rivers of water to wash themselves is to set the time with the stopwatch to make the much "hateful bath time" even more fun. If the kids finish showering before the timer sounds, you could give them a reward such as reading them a story before bed.
3) When children do brush their teeth it often happens that they leave the tap running all the time. Turn off the tap while washing is another way to avoid unnecessary waste of water. It is important to teach children to open it only when necessary. You should make them understand the importance of water by telling them, for example, fairy tales with animal protagonists or cartoon characters they know. With a little imagination, some funny names and some fun events you could create children's stories to teach them about water saving.
4) Leave the food on the plate it is a bad habit typical of children (and not only). In fact, food is not wasted and you have to teach your children to finish what they have on their plates. Sometimes making him eat lunch or dinner completely can be a real undertaking so try to make meals a fun time for the whole family and maybe don't overdo the courses.
5) Instead of taking your children to school every morning by car by themselves, you could organize with the parents of their schoolmates in the neighborhood and take them in turns in a kind of car-pooling between parents. Maybe if the school isn't that far away, you might as well take a walk. This way, not only will you reduce carbon emissions, but children will be able to enjoy some special moments with their friends before school.
6) Take a walk with your children to the nearest library and borrow gods educational books who talk about ecology and energy saving, with the aim of letting them know where energy comes from and the importance of using it with caution.
7) Teach your child to recycle old newspapers, magazines, Christmas or birthday cards. Put a basket near the door of his room and every time the child puts something in it that is of letter, let them know they did a good job of helping the environment stay greener.
8) Instead of turn up the thermostat when it is slightly colder at home, have the children wear something heavier or invent some games (or even some simple chores) to do at home to get them to do some movement and therefore warm their body temperature.
9) Try to make the children eat a lot fruits and vegetables in the first place for the health of your children (how? One last tip off the list, take your children often for a walk in the countryside but also in the park to let them feel the pleasure of being in the midst of nature and consequently to make them understand how important it is to preserve it.
