Here are some of the most common mistakes people make when using deodorant. Never use too much!

We rely on deodorants to prevent sweat and the odor it can produce. Nowadays there are all types and, above all, there are many organic choices or products with a good INCI. However, not knowing the difference between this product and an antiperspirant, as well as not knowing its proper use, can have unpleasant consequences.

Has it ever happened to you that, despite taking a bath and putting on deodorant, you ended up smelling bad? A truly embarrassing situation!

Here are some of the errors most common that are committed when using deodorant.

You use it thinking it's an antiperspirant

The first thing to keep in mind is that deodorants and antiperspirants offer different protection. The former are considered cosmetic and are formulated to curb bad odors and hide unpleasant ones already formed. I'm generally a alcohol based and, once applied, they make the skin acidic, which means less "attractive" to the bacteria that cause bad odors.

- antiperspirantsInstead, they include active ingredients such as aluminum salts, which temporarily block the pores of sweat, thus reducing the amount of sweat.

What is the use of the two then? Better to evaluate case by case. Just know that the function of blocking sweat entrusted mostly to the formulation with aluminum or zirconium salts (or by both) has been the subject of debate for years by the international scientific community and could negatively affect the glands of the axillary cavity. Choosing the right product depends on your daily needs. If your day isn't that busy, opt for a deodorant, which usually lasts around eight hours. The antiperspirant, on the other hand, has an effect that can last from 24 to 72 hours and is formulated for people subject to heavy sweating and for those who practice sports.

If you have sensitive skin and suffer from underarm irritation, a non-daily application is best.

You use too much product

As for the quantity, if you use the spray, two seconds per armpit are enough; if you use the roll-on or stick, pass it over your armpit a couple of times to get even coverage.

You don't take into consideration the sensitivity of your skin

Read the INCI!

If you have a persistent rash in your armpits, you may have an allergic reaction to your deodorant. Look for one that is specially formulated for sensitive skin and does not contain aluminum salts, perfume or dyes, which can trigger allergies and irritation.

Also preservatives in deodorant can cause an allergic rash or irritation.

Apply it immediately after shaving

After shaving, wait a while before applying the deodorant. Applying it to freshly shaved skin can cause severe irritation. So, so be it waxing, depilatory cream o razor, the skin immediately after the treatment is too sensitive and the product should never be applied to injured or irritated skin.

You also use the same product when exercising

During strenuous physical activity, your body generates a lot of sweat, so the deodorant you usually use may not be enough to keep you cool and free from strong odors. It is better to use a special one for exercise and for this there are specific formulas even among natural products.

Use synthetic fabrics on hot days

Instead, try wearing loose-fitting clothes made of breathable fabrics like cotton or linen that absorb moisture, especially if you sweat a lot. This will allow your body to stay cooler, while also avoiding the bad smell due to sweating.

You don't drink enough

Much of our body's hydration is due to the food we eat. Fruits and vegetables are the foods that hydrate us the most. Drinking enough water and eating these types of foods can keep the body cool and prevent excessive underarm sweating.

You wear the same clothes every day

Are you going to put on the shirt you trained in? Think twice! It is true that it is not necessary to wash all your clothes after each use, but if you tend to sweat a lot, there is no deodorant that will take ...

You apply it even if you don't need it

Good personal hygiene with washing with a good detergent and frequent change of clothes helps to keep the formation of bad odor under control. Plus, there are people who need less deodorant than others. Have you ever thought that it could be a useless purchase for you too?

Finally, remember that the words "dermatologically tested”Does not necessarily mean that the product has a safer formulation than others, without allergenic or sensitizing substances. Just as "hypoallergenic" does not mean it does not contain critical substances like all the others. Always better to learn to read the label!
