Ten Nights in September

In September of 2005, my father and I took a trip, attending 9 baseball games in 7 cities in 10 days. I had recently quit my job and moved to Austin, Texas. He had recently retired. I think we were both trying to put off thinking about what would come next for just a little while longer. I kept my notebook with me at all times, and posted along the road. 7 entries, over 15,000 words. Looking back, and remembering how I wrote in the moments at hotels, getting material talking with my father in the car and at the games, I think it's some of the finer writing that I've done. Of course, I owe that to the fact that it was one of the finest trips I've ever been on.

Enjoy.
