Hero: Ryan Dempster (13-10) became the fourth Canadian pitcher to win at least 100 major league games, joining the elite company of Fergie Jenkins (284), Kirk McCaskill (106), and Reggie Cleveland (105). Dempster allowed three hits - singles to Casey McGehee in the fourth, Randy Wolf in the fifth, and Alcides Escobar in the seventh -over seven innings while striking out eight and walking two.

Hero: Carlos Zambrano (8-6) once was again was spectacular, allowing just three hits - singles by Jonathan Lucroy in the third, Prince Fielder in the fourth, and Ryan Braun in the ninth - over 8 2/3 innings while striking out nine and walking three. Zambrano retired 14 in a row before Braun singled with two outs in the ninth. Big Z is 5-0 with a 1.60 ERA in seven outings since rejoining the starting rotation on Aug. 9. He also went 3-for-4 to raise his average to .273 and drove in his sixth run of the season.

Hero: Ted Lilly was spectacular for most of the night, surrendering just four hits over eight innings while walking none and striking out eight. But Lilly made one critical mistake. After his offense finally staked him a run in the top of the eighth, Lilly promptly coughed it up as National League home run leader Corey Hart crushed a hanging sinker over the left-field fence to lead off the bottom of the eighth. It was Hart's 15th round-tripper of the season.
