Knowing Now...

And so the baseball season of 2006 has ended with something of a whimper by the Detroit Tigers. It is a sign of an inexperienced team when it repeats its mistakes. The Tigers certainly did this, with the pitchers’ errors and walks in particular. The Cardinals, on the other hand, used their postseason experience, and were able to avoid repeating their mistakes in the pressure situations. And that was that. Tigers in Four

My thoughts turned to Michigan this weekend as the Tigers beat the Yankees. The final two games were, in every possible sense, outright fantastic. The villain was vanquished by the powers of good pitching, defense, and fundamentals. (continue...)

The final weekend of Cubs baseball had everything except good starting pitching. There were homeruns and strikeouts, last minute heroics, extraordinary blunders, exceptional feats and plays, extra innings and rain delays, boredom and suspense, strategy and routine, larger context and bigger questions, and even the resignation of the team president.
