It was one of those nights.
The Cubs trailed 7-0 in the first inning.Thank goodness for the Cubs broadcast crews, who helped ease the pain with their banter.
On the radio, Pat Hughes and Keith Moreland discussed the David Spade movie, Joe Dirt for much of the second inning.
On the television side, Len Kasper and Bob Brenly discussed this weekend's royal wedding.
"If I had my choice between watching the royal wedding on television or watching catchers block balls in the dirt down in the bullpen before a ballgame, I'd rather watch catchers block balls in the dirt - wedding gown or not," Brenly said. "I don't care what they wear. That's something I have interest in,"
A couple innings later, Kasper informed Brenly that his thoughts on the royal wedding had been posted by Rob Neyer of SB Nation.
"Rob Neyer is searching for content, just like we are," Brenly said.
"I think the comedic fallback line is something like, I'd rather blank than blank, is I'd rather grout the tub than watch the royal wedding, but I have to be honest, I've never actually grouted a tub," Kasper said.
"I've grouted a tub," Brenly said.
"That's something you'd rather do than watch the royal wedding?" Kasper asked.
"I'd still rather watch the guys blocking balls in the bullpen than grout the tub or watch the royal wedding," Brenly said.
