Cubs at Cooperstown
WGN Sports executive producer Bob Vorwald shared these photos of Cubs artifacts that are displayed at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y., on his Chicago Baseball Stories chicagonow.com blog.
I had the pleasure of visiting that Hall with my father, grandfather, and nephew in 1999. It took us two days to make it through all of the exhibits and was a near religious experience. I'd go to see the plaques alone.
The Hall is open year-round and is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day.
I highly recommend a trip to any baseball fan and suggest a spring visit. The weather is tolerable and the crowds aren't as huge as they get during the peak summer months. At times during our visit, we had entire exhibits to ourselves.
There isn't many other things to do in Cooperstown and it is not an easy place to get to. It is located in upstate New York and not near any major cities. It required a 30-hour roundtrip car ride from Chicago.
I'm planning on a return visit when my 2-year-old son gets a little older.
