By Chris Rewers on Monday, August 30, 2010

Hero: Aramis Ramirez went 2-for-3 with a double and four RBI to lead the Cubs' 18-hit attack.

Goat: Alfonso Soriano overran a Neil Walker fly ball in the sixth inning and committed a three-base error. It was Soriano's sixth error of the season. Walker scored Pittsburgh's first run - the major league leading 85th unearned run allowed by the Cubs this season.

Key Play: Marlon Byrd drove in the Cubs' first run and put the Cubs ahead to stay with an RBI single in the first inning.

Comments: It was the third time this season that the Cubs scored 14 runs in a game this season (May 7 at Cincinnati, July 20 vs. Houston). They scored a season-high 15 against Milwaukee at Wrigley Field on Aug. 4.

The Cubs improved to 5-2 under interim manager Mike Quade.

Carlos Zambrano (6-6) allowed one unearned run on four hits in 5 1/3 innings while striking out seven and walking four to win for the fourth time in his last five decisions. Zambrano is 3-0 with a 1.84 ERA in five starts since rejoining the starting rotation on Aug. 9.

Big Z also hit his 21st career home run with a man on in the fifth inning. It was his first homer since Aug. 25, 2009 and the 12th of his career at Wrigley Field.

Next: Ryan Dempster (12-8, 3.42 ERA) will try to complete an undefeated August on Tuesday (CSN+, 7:05 p.m.) at Wrigley Field when he opposes Pittsburgh right-hander Jeff Karstens (2-10, 4.98).

Dempster is 4-0 with a 1.31 ERA in five August starts.

In two starts against the Cubs this season, the 27-year-old Karstens is 0-1 with a 3.00 ERA. He's allowed 13 hits in 12 innings and Cubs batters are hitting .283 against him.
