A Koufax Cubbie Occurrence

By Chris Rewers on Saturday, July 10, 2010

Thinking about this year's Cubs team too much makes our heads hurt. So we always enjoy when Len Kasper and Bob Brenly can take our minds off the present by sharing a story from the past.

During Friday night's Cubs-Dodgers telecast on Comcast SportsNet, Len and Bob relayed a great Ron Santo story about Sandy Koufax's perfect game against the Cubs at Dodger Stadium on Sept. 9, 1965.

Santo told Len and Bob that the Cubs were masochistically looking forward to facing the great left-hander because a scouting report said that Koufax was tipping his pitches out of the stretch.

The problem was that Koufax retired all 27 batters he faced and no Cubs reached base; Koufax worked out of a windup the entire game.
