Astros 8, Cubs 1

By Chris Rewers on Wednesday, July 28, 2010

Hero: Ryan Theriot went 3-for-4 to account for half of the Cubs' hits and scored their only run.

Goat: Koyie Hill, a switch hitter who is awful from both sides of the plate went 0-for-3 with three strikeouts to drop his average to .190.

Key Play: The first of Carlos Lee's two two-run homers, in the sixth inning off Cubs starter Randy Wells (5-8), broke a 1-1 tie.

Comment: Wednesday's loss dropped the Cubs (46-56) to 10 games under .500 for the 10th time this season. The Cubs are 19-30 against NL Central foes.

Next: After an off day, the Cubs open a three-game series in Denver against the struggling Colorado Rockies (51-49) on Friday (WGN, 8:10 p.m.). The Rockies brought a seven-game losing streak into Wednesday's game and had dropped 11 of 13 to fall to fourth place in the NL West, eight games behind first-place San Diego.

Tom Gorzelanny (6-5, 3.22 ERA), who is 4-0 with a 2.83 ERA in his last five starts, will start for the Cubs while Colorado is undecided about its starter. Gorzelanny is 3-2 with a 2.25 ERA in 10 road appearances, including six starts, this season.
