Lou Left In The Dark

The Cubs activated veteran left-handed reliever John Grabow and optioned right-hander Mitch Atkins to Triple-A Iowa prior to Tuesday's scheduled game against the Oakland Athletics at Wrigley Field.

Grabow, who was suffering from left knee inflammation, is 0-3 with a 9.45 ERA in 23 appearances this season.

"Oakland's got a lot of left-handed hitting, so he's back at the right time," Lou Piniella said.

The right time for Oakland's lefty hitters.

The Tribune's Paul Sullivan points out that left-handed hitters are batting .310 against Grabow.
