Cubs 3, Pirates 1

By Chris Rewers on Tuesday, June 29, 2010

Hero: Alfonso Soriano hit solo home runs in the fourth and sixth innings - the 25th multi-homer game of his career.

Goat: Tyler Colvin went 0-for-4 and has just six hits in his last 35 at-bats (.171).

Key Play: In the first inning, after giving up back-to-back two-out singles to Andrew McCutchen and Garrett Jones, Ted Lilly (3-6) retired Lastings Milledge on a popout to Derrek Lee.

Comment: Lilly allowed six hits over seven innings while walking one and striking out five. His only blemish was a solo homer to Ryan Doutmit. The Cubs are averaging just 2.4 runs per game in Lilly's 13 starts this season.

Next: Tom Gorzelanny (2-5, 3.41 ERA) will make his first start for the Cubs (34-43) since May 26 on Wednesday (WGN, 1:20 p.m.) when he opposes Pittsburgh (26-51) right-hander Brad Lincoln (0-2, 6.00).

In nine starts this season, Gorzelanny has a 3.66 ERA. He has allowed 50 hits and struck out 53 in 51 2/3 innings as a starter in 2010.
