And If I Had A Million Dollars, I'd Be Rich

By Chris Rewers on Wednesday, June 23, 2010

The Cubs entered Wednesday night's game having already played 26 one-run games - tying them for the major league lead in one-run decisions with Cincinnati, San Diego, and Kansas City.

"We're just 10-16 in those games," Lou Piniella told reporters on Tuesday. ""If you add three wins to that, it makes you a lot more respectable."

Why stop there, Lou?

If the Cubs (31-39) would have won nine more of their first 70, they'd be in first place.

If the Cubs would have managed 57 more runs in their first 70 games, they'd rank first in the National League instead of 14th in the 16-team circuit.

If the sporadically used Tyler Colvin had twice as many at-bats, he'd have 18 homers and would be tied with Milwaukee's Corey Hart for the NL lead.

If Aramis Ramirez had 24 more hits, he'd be hitting .302 instead of .168.

If Ryan Theriot had drawn 18 more walks it would give him 32 for the season and an on-base percentage of .401 instead of .322.
