Uncle Lou Needs A Nap

By Beachwood Reporter on Wednesday, April 28, 2010

With the Nats up 3-2 in eighth, Marlon Byrd led off the Cubs half of the frame with a double. Like a handful of Cubs baserunners in this series, Byrd never advanced and the score held up. A reporter had the temerity to ask Uncle Lou after the game if maybe a bunt was in order to move Byrd along. Lou didn't much like the question.

"With a left-hand hitter you want to bunt?"

A pall settles over the interview room.

"What kind of baseball do you play?"

The pall thickens.

"Seriously, what kind of baseball do you play?"

Arrrrrmy baseball?

For the record, the sequence after Byrd's double:

1. Mike Fontenot popped out to shortstop.

2. Pinch-hitter Chad Tracy struck out swinging.

3. Xavier Nady walked.

4. Ryan Theriot fouled out to first.

Inning over.

The book says you don't play for a tie at home, and Fontenot is swinging a nice bat (he went 2-for-4 on the day), but it's not an overly obnoxious question. It was, however, an overly obnoxious reply.

UPDATE: Adding video from WGN.
