Nationals 3, Cubs 1

By Chris Rewers on Tuesday, April 27, 2010

Hero: The first inning sank Tom Gorzelanny (0-3). The left-hander was outstanding, but was done in by the two runs he surrendered in the opening frame. Gorzelanny worked seven innings in all, allowing just five hits.

Goat:John Grabow entered for Gorzelanny in the eighth, but his throwing error allowed Washington to score an unearned run and take a 3-1 lead.

Key Play: Cristian Guzman's triple in the first - the second Washington triple of the inning - gave the Nationals a 2-0 lead.

Comment: Gorzelanny has a 2.45 ERA but the Cubs have scored just twice during the left-hander's time on the mound.

Next: The Cubs will try to start another winning streak Wednesday (1:20 p.m., CSN) when they send Ryan Dempster (2-0, 2.60 ERA) against Washington's Luis Atilano (1-0, 1.50).
