The Card Who Was A Cub

By Rick Kaempfer on Tuesday, April 27, 2010

Great hitter, terrible manager, compulsive gambler, incredibly unpleasant personality, and birthday boy.

As a player he led the Cubs to the 1929 World Series and had one of the best seasons in Cubs history.

As a manager he borrowed money from his players to finance a gambling addiction, tore the team apart, was so despised by the fans that they threw lemons at him, and was fired.

Hall of Famer Rogers Hornsby was born on this day in 1897.
