Diamondbacks 13, Cubs 5

By Chris Rewers on Thursday, April 29, 2010

Hero: Kosuke Fukudome provided the only highlight on a depressing afternoon at Wrigley Field with his first grand slam, in the eighth inning.

Goat: Reliever James Russell made a bad situation worse by allowing five of the seven runs Arizona scored in the seventh inning.

Key Play: Adam LaRoche's three-run homer off Ted Lilly (5 IP, 7 H, 6 ER, 2 BB, 6 SO) in the fifth inning put the Diamondbacks ahead to stay and was part of a banner day for the veteran first baseman. LaRoche went 3-for-4 with two homers and a double, scored three runs, and drove in five.

Comment: How much longer will Lou Piniella stick with Aramis Ramirez in the cleanup spot? Ramirez, now hitting (a very soft) .159 after going 1-for-4 Thursday, looks completely lost at the plate. He has hit very few balls with authority during the Cubs' first 23 games.

Next: Randy Wells (2-0, 2.49 ERA) will try to halt the Cubs' three-game losing streak when he opposes Arizona's Rodrigo Lopez (1-0, 4.88) on Friday (1:20 p.m., CSN/MLBN).
