The Wrong Afternoon

By JCB on Sunday, May 20, 2007

I’ll be perfectly honest: I haven’t been following the Cubs. I started working as a law firm clerk and I have had very little time for anything that isn’t work or work-social related. And I’m not sure how much baseball I’ll be able to watch any time soon. Sometimes life gets in the way.

I did catch part of the game today against the White Sox on MLB.TV. I had heard that Zambrano was back in form, but no such luck. I shut the browser with a sigh when Pierzynski slugged the grand slam to center. There’s a time and a place for watching until the end no matter what, but there’s also a time for folding your laundry. I guess I just picked the wrong afternoon to tune in.

Anyway, I’m hoping to settle into a routine with life and work and baseball and writing. As Sosa approaches 600, I plan to write something on that, especially if I happen to witness #600 at either of the games next weekend I’ll attend in Arlington. To give it away: I haven’t forgotten how he left Chicago, but I admire that he’s made a comeback; in a way it validates why we liked him so much in the long stretch of good years.

Here’s hoping a day off helps the team rest, and Rich Hill regains his form on Tuesday night.
