An Off Day With 100 To Go

By JCB on Sunday, June 11, 2006

Well, it’s been a hectic week on my end. New roommate, new apartment, winding down my role for a major project at work, and when I had a moment the other day, I mailed off my official letter of intent to law school, among plenty of other things. It didn’t leave much time for baseball or writing.

Time keeps on slippin’.

I hate when life gets in the way like that. Not that they’re not all positive events, because they are. It’s just that when things get hectic I like to turn my mind off to everything else while I watch a game, and I haven’t had the chance to do that every day. Or, I haven’t forced myself to take the time, I suppose is a fairer way to put it. Today, I fell asleep on the recliner for 6 innings, for crying out loud; I thought I would take a 10 minute cat nap and woke up with Marmol out of the game.

I did catch a lot of the last few games here and there, and the team seems back on track, mostly anyway. Now we just wait and see whether 11 games is too many to make up. No point getting our hopes up just yet, I suppose.

It’s a shame the season has been so bad that my optimism is bridled, but it is. I think we’ll see some good baseball for the rest of the month, but 11 games is a lot, whether there’s 100 games left or not. And the Kerry Wood shoulder relapse was frustrating news.

Anyway, I guess I’m mostly writing because I don’t have my bi-weekly Best of Game Notes post ready yet and I won’t have the chance to put it up until at least tomorrow.

Sometimes we all need an off day to catch up.
